Working with Time

Working with Time

Sequence layers over time and add animation.

Editing

Fable specializes in creating stories that span time. Each of your projects has a Timeline that defines how your layers appear and change over time.

Every layer on Fable has an associated start and end point so that you can compose various scenes in your story over time.

Animation

"Animation" is used to alter the properties and contents of layers on your project over time. It covers everything from simple fade-ins to spiraling shapes to color transitions to scrambling text. Anything that changes how your layers display on the canvas over time is "animation" on Fable.

Fable has two ways of adding animation to your project:

  • Transitions for simple, no-frills animations you want to apply to layers

  • Keyframes for complete control over any property of your layer

Next steps

  • Add a transition to a few layers

    • Select the layer

    • Click the Transitions & Effects button in the bottom right corner

    • Select any of the transitions at the top of the browser (e.g., "Fade in" or "Scale In")

  • Edit the duration of your layers and move their duration bars around the timeline to customize your project sequence

  • Play the project with the Space bar to see how the project feels with time.

  • Continue to Getting Started 5: Exporting a project.
