Libraries

Libraries

Reuse components across projects across your team. Reduce the time you spend recreating animated assets on projects that use similar components.

What are Motion Libraries?

Libraries are created by distinguishing certain projects on your team as a "Library." Once set as Libraries, all components within that project will be accessible to add to any other project on your team.

Components you add from Libraries will include the same layers, keyframes, timing, and effects as the original component. So, they are a great way to maintain consistency across all projects on your team efficiently.

Publishing a Library

You can designate a project as a Library by publishing it. Only team projects can be published as Libraries, as you will be making the components within the Library accessible to everyone on your team.

To publish a project as a Library:

  • Create components for a project.

  • Open the Asset Browser on the project

  • Click the Publish button in the top right of the Asset Browser

  • Review the components that will be published

  • Click Publish

Your project is now a Library; all of its components will be available on all projects on your team.

Remember that projects are the entity that is published. Individual components are not published to a singular team library. Therefore, you can have multiple Libraries on your Fable workspace.

To help you distinguish Libraries from normal projects, Fable switches the project icon from blue to purple on the Dashboard.

Updating a Library

You can update changes to your Library at any time. This includes adjusting components already in the Library as well as adding new components to a published Library.

Changes you make are not automatically available on all other projects; first, you must publish a new version of your Library.

To publish an updated version of your Library:

  1. Open the Library

  2. Open the Asset Browser

  3. Click the Publish button

  4. Review the changes made to your Library

  5. Click Update

The updated components will now be available to be added to all other projects.

Component instances already added to projects will not be automatically updated. You'll have to re-add an updated version of the component to projects you'd like to use the updated component on.

Using Library Components

All published Libraries are displayed on the Asset Browser of all projects on your team. You can see them listed below local assets on the browser.

To add components from Libraries to your project, simply drag and drop the component from the asset browser to the canvas.
