Today, after much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to wind down Fable. This post outlines what you can expect in the coming weeks, and why we made this decision.

What to expect from here

  • Support Availability: Our support team will be available until October 30 2024 to assist with any questions or if you need help exporting work off the platform.

  • Service Availability: The Fable product will remain available until November 15 2024 to give you time to render out your files. On this date, we will turn off access to the product, delete all customer data and project files, and cancel all active subscriptions.

Thank you to everyone who supported us

To our valued customers, passionate community, and dedicated design partners and advocates, you were invaluable in helping us build Fable. To all the employees who joined Fable over the years, we couldn’t have done it without you, and my deepest thanks for taking a bet on the mission. And to all of our investors, your conviction and support allowed us to dream the impossible, and bring the vision to life – you’re all the best.

Why Fable is winding down

In 2019, we started Fable to make motion design more accessible – To become the “Figma for motion,” the “After Effects on the web,” and the “Canva for creative pros.” However, software looked very different back then, and while we knew our vision would be a near-impossible task, the early validation was all we needed to bet big. Today, Fable is the most powerful motion platform on the web, loved by some of the biggest brands on earth. We are all incredibly proud of what we brought to the world.

However, by the time we started to take Fable to market, AI was beginning to challenge the very nature of software itself, and our multi-modal bet with Prism wasn’t enough to cut through. And while we hold a strong pov on how the next generation of creative workflows should evolve, unfortunately, we don’t have the time to get there.

Cheers to the future

We believe there’s a new chapter of incredible creative platforms just around the corner, and so, we hand them the baton from here. The future of software belongs to the thoughtful blend of research and applications that propel the next generation of creators and pay homage to the past. Creativity is universal, and we’re optimistic that with the right tools and workflows in place, it’s us humans who will still be telling the stories.

Thank you again to everyone who made Fable possible. We hope the product brought joy, fueled your aspirations, helped to grow your businesses, and opened new opportunities. It has been an honor to serve the creative community, and we bid you farewell for now.

FAQs

What happens after the shutdown date?

On November 15, 2024, the Fable product will be shut down. All users will no longer be able to sign up, log in, or access files. All customer data and project files will be permanently deleted, and all active subscriptions will be canceled.

What should I do with my files?

We recommend you look through your Fable files and export your projects off the platform (e.g. to mp4, gif, lottie… etc). After the shutdown date, all files will be deleted, and the Fable file format is not transferable to other platforms.

Our support team will be available until October 30 2024. You can email support@fable.app, or send us a message on Discord – we’ll be happy to help. After this date, the product will remain accessible until November 15, 2024, but support will not be available.
